ABOUT

Outdoors and active from a young age, I have been passionate about all things Athletic. Moving is essential for me.
I was first introduced to Pilates hoping to relieve my chronic low back pain due to Scoliosis. Quickly my pain went from unbearable to almost none at all! But beyond being a source of pain management, what drew me most to Pilates was the discovery of its strict mind and body discipline, the inner strength it builds while also lengthening, increasing flexibility, symmetry and improving posture.  I now found myself stronger than ever before and more efficient in all other movements and in my other choices of exercise/sport. I also found the same spirit of intense athletic training in Pilates. Pilates is my “multivitamin”! I fell in love with Pilates and so in 2013 I became certified through the Body Arts and Science International (BASI) program.
I encourage my clients to push their limits, improving their strength while remaining true to the technique and precision Pilates requires for success, whilst having fun and finding fulfillment.

What is Pilates?

WHAT IS PILATES? Pilates / pɪˈlɑːtiːz/ pi-lah-teez Pilates is a method of body conditioning that has been practiced for decades. However, it has recently gained momentum in the fitness and health industries as more people are seeking a safer and more natural total body workout. Pilates is an alternative form of exercise that simultaneously strengthens, stretches and defines all muscle groups. It aligns the body while eliminating excess tension and strain on the joints. Pilates is a mind/body approach to exercise that increases one's awareness of good body mechanics and focuses on the connection of the mind, the breath and the body. It is the perfect workout promoting physical and mental well-being. Each Pilates session is tailored to the specific needs and abilities of the client. The Pilates method includes more than 500 specifically designed movements performed on five major pieces of unique apparatus or for the mat work or no apparatus at all. The movements are efficient and fluid and require muscle control, coordination, balance, concentration and precision. Integrating these with strength, stability, flexibility and breathing, Pilates is the perfect workout for all ages and fitness levels.

History of Pilates

HISTORY OF PILATES Developed in the 1920s by the Joseph H. Pilates, the Pilates Method is a series of exercises that can be performed on a mat or with specialised equipment. Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1880. He started life as a small, frail child, which fuelled his fascination with exercises that would make him healthier, stronger and more physically attractive. Obsessed with attainment of the perfect body, he became an accomplished skier, boxer and gymnast. During World War I, Pilates was interned due to his nationality and it was during this time that he designed exercise apparatus used to rehabilitate injured war victims. In 1926, Pilates and his wife opened their first studio in New York City where many of their first clients came from the world of dance. Eminent dance masters such as George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins and Martha Graham became devoted to his method.
